PAINTING GOES AT A RECORD PRICE

The painting Le bassin aux nympheas by Monnet has been sold at a record price of 41 million at an auction.

This painting is one among the famous water lily series; experts expected it to sell it for 18 - 22million.

It was sold after an intense bidding and with the support of telephone bidding went up to 144 million.

Olivier Camu, Director and Head of Impressionist and Modern Art, Christie's : 'Le bassin aux nympheas' is a masterpiece painting by Claude Monet.

"After a thrilling bidding battle between a number of clients in the room and on the telephones, the painting eventually sold to an anonymous collector for 41 million, setting a new world record price for the artist at auction, and illustrating continued confidence in the art market."

Launch of Mary Cassatt new website

The only American painter to exhibit, Mary Cassatt is also an innovative printmaker. She is all set to launch a new website in September; the address hasn't been decided yet. It will ultimately include all her works between 1000 and 1100 in all.

She would be the first to go online over the course of a year with her exclusive paintings, both oils and pastels; followed by the counterproofs; prints from proofs rather than plates; and finally the prints and drawings. The site is designed to cater for both the casual visitor as well as the scholar.

An introduction to Painting

In a basic term painting is a practice of using different colors to a surface like paper, canvas, glass, wood, or other. On the other hand, when used it for artistic sense, the term "painting" explains the use of this activity in combination with composition, drawing and few other aesthetic considerations to make the expression clear and conceptual intention of the practitioner.

Painting is basically used as a medium of representing, documenting and expressing all the diverse intents and subjects, which are as several as there are practitioners of the technique. Paintings could be naturalistic and emblematic, photographic, abstract, be full with story content, imagery, emotion or be political naturally. A huge part of the history of painting is ruled by spiritual motifs and thoughts; sites of this kind of painting vary from artwork portrait mythological figures on pottery to biblical scenes made on the interior walls and ceiling of The Sistine Chapel to depictions of the human body itself as a spiritual subject.
